Dr. Sidi Ould Tah Emerged Victorious as AFDB President

Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, the Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), has been chosen to be the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), which opens a new era for the continent’s leading development finance institution.
Dr. Ould Tah emerged victorious through three closely fought rounds of voting garnering 76 per cent of the delegate vote to become the 10th Bank president since the bank’s establishment in 1967.
A familiar name in development finance, Ould Tah carries a rich and extensive portfolio of more than 30 years’ experience in the public and multilateral sectors. Ould Tah began his professional life in 1984 as a member of the Mauritanian Bank for Development and Commerce (BMDC), before serving in the Food Security Commission and afterwards as Administration and Finance Manager in the Municipality of Nouakchott. Between 1988 and 1996, he served as Advisor to the Director General and Headed Internal Auditing in Nouakchott Port Authority.
He subsequently worked with the Arab Authority for Agriculture, Investment and Development (AAAID) in Sudan as a Financial Analyst and continued to work with the Islamic Development Bank, where he held senior roles, including Technical Assistant to the President.
Politically, Dr. Ould Tah served as economic advisor to the President and Prime Minister of Mauritania from 2006 until 2008, before serving as Minister of Economy and Finance. He was then appointed as Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, a role he held until he was appointed at BADEA.
